New members joined the board of home service provider – Urban Company as independent directors. The first name among them is — Deepinder Goyal, The founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of online food delivery firm Zomato. Three other industry leaders namely – Mckinsey’s former partner- Ireena Vittal, Helion Co-founder- Ashish Gupta and Former Chairperson and Senior Partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC)- Shyamal Mukherjee, have joined the Urban Company’s board as independent directors as well.
Urban Company’s board will now comprise three executive directors, three non-executive directors and four independent directors. The company is looking to have a board with at least 50% independent directors, it said in a statement. Abhiraj Bhal and the other Co-founders – Raghav Chandra and Varun Khaitan – are directors on the company board.
Abhiraj Singh Bhal said in a statement that they are very humbled to have such respected industry leaders join their board as independent directors, as they step into their next phase of growth. Experience and industry expertise of these eminent leaders will guide them in the company building journey. Urban company team is looking forward to their mentorship.
Bangalore based Urban Company has its presence across India. Founded by Abhiraj Bhal, Raghav Chandra and Khaitan in 2014, Urban Company offers services ranging from home appliances to beauty segment in India, Dubai, Australia, Singapore and Saudi Arabia. The company has raised close to half a billion dollars to date, from investors like Tiger Global, Vy Capital, Steadview Capital and others.
Last June, Bhal in an interview had mentioned that Urban Company plans to go public by the end of 2022 or middle of 2023.
