Pratap Pothen, lost his life due to a heart attack in Kilpauk, at his Chennai apartment on Friday morning (15 July). Just one day before his death Pratap Pothen was still writing posts on Facebook, and belittling with his trademark dark humor.
“When you treat the symptoms of a problem without treating the root cause of it, then you will start to be dependent on the pharmacy,”
While Quoting George Carlin, an American comedian, said,
“Death is caused by swallowing small amounts of saliva over a long period of time.”
Background
Pratap Pothen, noted actor, filmmaker, and ad man, was born on 13 August 1952 in Trivandrum, Kerala (new name Thiruvananthapuram). Early he studied in Ooty at the Lawrence School, Lovedale. His graduation was from the Madras Christian College. Initially, he worked in Mumbai as a copywriter in an ad agency. After this, he also worked at Sistas and Hindustan Thomson. In 1985, at the age of 33 years, Pratab married actress Raadhika, but their marriage ended in 1986. Then he married Amala Sathyanath in 1990. They also separated in 2012 after 22 years. They also had a daughter, Keya.
Film Career
He directed 12 films and acted in up to 100 films. Pratap worked in Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu, and in Hindi films. He also offered his services in the film industry as a producer and as a scriptwriter.

Tribute to Pratap Pothen by Film Industry –
As the shocking news of maverick actor and filmmaker’s demise came to light, Kamal Haasan, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Nazriya Nazim, Rima Kallingal, Aashiq Abu, Manju Warrier, and many others from the film industry expressed their shock, and propound their condolences on social media.
Kamal Haasan paid tributes to the late actor on Twitter and shared a rare photo with Pratap, and wrote some best lines tributing to him.
Actor Sathyaraj shared a video while paying tribute to Pratap Pothen. Prithviraj Sukumaran and Nazriya Nazim wrote “we miss you, sir” and shared his pic. Pratap’s pic was also shared by Tovino Thomas, and Dulquer Salmaan, who wrote, “Rest In peace.” for him.
