Wockhardt Hospital, Mira Road, Mumbai, rescued a six-year-old boy by removing tooth from his right lungs. The little boy swallowed the tooth accidently after it broke. Later, when the boy appeared restless and was not able to breathe, eat or drink, his parents admitted him to the Wockhardt Hospital. The doctors after proper diagnosis stated that a tooth is stuck in his right lung.
Dr Sangamlal Pal, ENT surgeon, said, “The patient had breathing difficulty. His parents brought him to emergency room after which a radiology test was conducted. The test results showed the tooth on the right side of the bronchus. He was immediately scheduled for rigid bronchoscopy surgery. The patient was put to general anaesthesia and his airway was accessed following which the tooth was removed. Immediately after the procedure, his breathing condition got better. The patient was shifted to the paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), post operation.”
Dr Ankit Gupta, paediatric intensivist of the hospital, said that the patient was restless and could not breathe as he aspirated the loose tooth.
“Our baby was struggling to breathe and it was horrifying to see him in such state. He was suffering badly but after successful treatment at Wockhardt Hospital, Mira Road he can breathe freely and has got a fresh lease of life,” concluded the patient’s father.
