Food is the most important and delicious part of our lives. Food gives us nutrients. Food is the basic need of our living. Many people across the globe sleep hungry because they do get food to eat, whereas on the other hand, tons of food go wasted every day.

Stop Food Waste Day is celebrated on 28th April with a mission to educate people and spread the awareness about not wasting food and addressing this issue globally.

History of the Mission

This mission was initiated in the year 2017 by Compass Group. This is one of the biggest food service companies serving restaurants, cafes, hospitals, schools, and more. More than 30+ compass countries took part in the global mission, to spread awareness and persuade the change. This group has successfully reduced food waste by 25% in the year 2020.

The Compass Group’s main attention to detail is to educate the Chefs on how to limit their food waste to the minimum. Their contribution is more than 25,000 pounds of food every year to the local food banks.

Stop Food Waste Day directly focuses on spreading awareness and proper knowledge on how to purchase, grow, and use food to minimize wastage. The Compass Group has successfully recognized food waste by 25% globally and provided food to 795 million of hungry people across the globe.

How to Stop Food Wastage

This is a global mission that needs individual contributors too, to provide the benchmark of success.

  • Proper and adequate use of the available resources.
  • List out the items required before going for the grocery or vegetable shopping.
  • Freezing the leftover food with minimum exposure to the air.
  • Checking out the proper recipes for the leftover food.
  • Donating the excess to the nearest food banks if available.

With the help of above mentioned small pointers, we can become individual contributors to the mission and can help the each hungry human being living on this earth to get adequate food to eat. Proper education is required amongst everyone, understanding the importance of food and not wasting it in every meal. This habit needs to be incorporated in their roots.
