International Dance Day is a worldwide celebration on the 29th of April every year. This is the birth anniversary of Jean-Georges Noverre, the architect of modern ballet. This day is invented by the Dance Committee of the International Theater Institute (ITI), the main partner of the performing arts of UNESCO. The day attempts to uplift the participation drilling in dance through multiple events and festivals occurred on this day across the globe.
History of the Day
This day laid its foundation in the year 1982. Every year since the foundation a famous dance personality is selected to write a message for International Dance Day. ITI also organizes flagship event in the host city. The event comprises several dance performances, educational workshops, humanitarian projects, and speeches given by the ambassadors, VIPs, dance personalities, and the selected Message Writer of that particular year. The day is a grand occasion for those associated with this form of art and to spread awareness for those who are still lacking it.
