On Thursday, India reported a 35-years old man as the first confirmed Monkeypox case. According to government officials, he has a history of travel to the Middle East. He departed at Thiruvananthapuram airport from UAE, where he had close contact with a positive tested person of this epidemic disease. On his flight to Kerala, he was closely connected with 11 co-passengers. According to Health minister Veena George, he also had close contact with his parents, a taxi driver, and an auto rickshaw driver before feeling any symptoms.

What is Monkeypox?

Monkeypox virus, a member of the smallpox virus family, is an agent which causes infectious illness, Monkeypox. Due to its epidemic nature, it quickly spread merely through touch or contact with a person (victim of Monkeypox). An infectious pregnant woman can transfer this contagious disease to her fetus. During experimental studies, semen was detected with pieces of DNA of the Monkeypox virus, but the investigation is ongoing to find out the relation of the spreading of Monkeypox with the exchange of body fluids.
