Covaxin by Bharat Biotech’s has been approved for the age group of 6years to 12 years and Corbevax by Biological E’s has been approved for the age group of 5years to 12years. Zydus Cadila’s ZyCov-D vaccine is also permitted for children above 12years of age.
The biggest vaccination drive worldwide started in the year 2021 for COVID-19. Initially, only the adults were approved from 18years and above. The vaccine drive commenced in India in January 2021 starting with the frontline workers, Doctors, Nurses, Hospital staff, etc. Then on 3rd March 2021 began with 60 years and above citizens of India, post that till December 2021 they covered the larger population of the 18years and above to be vaccinated.
On 3rd January 2022, after more research and development in the field, they commenced a vaccination drive for children 15years to 18years of age. Post it in March moved to the age group of 12years to 14years.
Now, as the things are being more normalized, the government has relaxed all the COVID norms and permitted schools to open up at full capacity. On Tuesday, The Drug Controller General of India also sanctioned vaccines for children below 12.
