Bhupinder Singh, a Veteran playback singer, departed from us on July 18 at 82. The legendary singer breathed his last at a Mumbai hospital due to cardiac arrest, suspected colon cancer and some other complications related to Covid-19. Mitali Mukherjee Singh, wife of Bhupinder singer told PTI, Press Trust of India, that just a week ago he was diagnosed with Covid, and with this, she told about his battle with colon cancer.
Bhupinder Singh (6 February 1940 – 18 July 2022)
He was born in Amritsar on 6 February 1940, as Bhupinder Soin, Punjab to Prof. Natha Singhji, who was a trained vocalist and his first music teacher.
He was known for his soulful ghazals, and he has crooned many evergreen songs for the Bollywood industry, including Panchtatva.
In the mid-1980s, Bhupinder married Mitali Mukherjee, a Bangladeshi singer, and they performed at ghazal and many live performances together. Nihal Singh, their son is also a musician.
He has given us many beautiful songs including “Dil Dhoondta hai”, “Ek akela is Shehar Mein”, “Kisi Nazar ko tera intezaar aaj bhi”, “Karoge yaad to”, “Meethe bol bole”, “Kahiya Kahan Se Aana Hua”, and many more.
As the Bollywood industry has lost another diamond, this damage done to the music world, cannot be filled. He will always be in our hearts and be remembered for his singing.

Following the playback singer’s demise, Bollywood celebs and fans that have mourned and paid their last respects to the veteran singer flooded Twitter with condolence messages. Paying an emotional tribute to the late singer, Ajay Devgn wrote, “Deeply saddened about the demise of Bhupinder Ji”. He praised the uniqueness of his voice and offered condolences to his family.
Musician Rajesh Roshan, Filmmaker Rakesh Roshan’s younger brother, shared his wistful affections with the singer to ETimes. He told that “He was one of the few singers who could put life into his songs”, with other respectful words for him.
