Chinese president Xi Jingping had to be hospitalized at the end of 2021 as he was suffering from a rare disease called CelebralAneurysm. According to ANI, during his Italy visit he appeared to be little unstable. His speech was slow and also took support to sit down. After diagnosis he was admitted to the hospital for surgery but reportedly, Xi Jingping wants to be treated with traditional Chinese medicines rather than going for surgery.
Cerebral Aneurysm or Brain Aneurysm is a condition where an artery in the brain becomes dilated and gets filled with blood. Small cerebral aneurysm does not cause problems and get detected during imaging tests for some other medical conditions. Sometimes the dilated artery may also rupture spilling blood into surrounding tissue, then it would be called hemorrhage. A ruptured aneurysm can result to serious health problems like stroke, brain damage, coma even death
Some important points to know about cerebral aneurysm
Why this forms- Cerebral Aneurysm forms when the artery walls in the brain becomes thin and the artery becomes dilated. They occur at the weakest points like artery branch points
Cerebral aneurysms can result from
➢ genetic connective tissue disorders weakening artery walls
➢ polycystic kidney disease
➢ history of aneurysm in a first-degree family member
➢ untreated high blood pressure
➢ cigarette smoking
➢ drug abuse
➢ age over 40.
➢ atherosclerosis
Rupturing of aneurysm can result from
• Smoking
• High blood pressure
• Large Size. .
• Growing aneurysms
• Family history
Where this forms- Can occur anywhere in the brain but typically forms at the branch point of arteries present at the skull base
Who are more prone to this condition- This can occur to anyone but more common in age group 30 to 60 and also more common in women than men
Types of Cerebral Aneurysm
➢ Saccular aneurysm is most common form of cerebral aneurysm that is attached to the main artery.
➢ Fusiform aneurysm forms on all sides of the artery.
➢ Mycotic aneurysm occurs as the result of an infection which weakens the artery wall, causing a bulging aneurysm to form.
Based on Size
➢ Small aneurysms, less than 11 millimeters in diameter
➢ Large aneurysms, 11 to 25 millimeters
➢ Giant aneurysms, greater than 25 millimeters in diameter
Symtoms of celebral Anaurysm-
Unruptured aneurysm
➢ Small aneurysms do not bleed or cause other problems
➢ A larger aneurysm can result-
❖ pain above and behind the eye
❖ Numbness
❖ Weakness
❖ paralysis on one side of the face
❖ a dilated pupil in the eye
❖ vision changes or double vision.
Ruptured aneurysm
➢ Severe headache
➢ double vision
➢ nausea
➢ vomiting
➢ stiff neck
➢ sensitivity to light
➢ seizures
➢ loss of consciousness (this may happen briefly or may be prolonged)
➢ cardiac arrest.
Treatment for Cerebral Aneurysm-
➢ Surgery
➢ Endovascular treatments
➢ Antiseizure
➢ Calcium channel blocking drugs
➢ Rehabilitative therapy
