The quote “reaching great heights” is turned into reality by 30 year old Indian woman mountaineer Prinyanka Mohite as she completed climbing Five peaks above 8000 metres after her expedition to the summit of Mount Kanchenjunga. She is the first Indian woman to attain this.
Priyanka Mohite received the Tenzing Norgay Adventure Award in 2020 and also Maharashtra Government’s Shiv Chhatrapati State award for adventure sports for 2017-2018. She has long list of successful mountain climbing, namely-
Mount Kanchenjunga (8,586 m), the third highest mountain on the planet on 4th May
Mount Annapurna (8,091 m) in April 2021. It is the 10th highest mountain peak in the world and she had become the first Indian woman climber to achieve this
Mount Lhotse (8,516 m) in 2018
Mount Makalu (8,485 m) in 2016
Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895 m) in 2016.
Mount Everest (8,849 m) in 2013, which is the highest peak in the world
Mount Menthosa (6,443m) in 2015, which is the second-highest peak in the Lahaul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh.
Ms Mohite, from Satara in Western Maharashtra was passionate about mountaineering since childhood. Her hiking began in her teenage days with Sahyadri range of Maharastraand in 2012 she climbed Bandarpunch, mountain massif of the Garhwal division of the Himalayas, in Uttarakhand.
