International Happiness Day is celebrated every year around the world on 20th March. The operation started in the year 2013 in the US, the mission aims to bring the understanding of happiness as a fundamental human goal and limelight’s the significance of happiness and well-being as an aspiration for people across the globe.
Happiness is a state of mind, the human being finds happiness in things, in people and each other, money, etc., but that is not actual happiness. Happiness is found inside oneself, being satisfied, is the sole key to happiness. A person with a beautiful house with all the luxury available in his/her life maybe not be happy, but even poor person could be happy, maybe because their life is content and they are satisfied within themselves.
The different countries are ranked accordingly taking into consideration few parameters, to find out the ranking of happiness in their countries. The parameters that are set are the purchasing power of the people in the country, healthy life expectancy at birth, freedom to make choices, generosity and perceptions of corruption.
The rank of India on World Happiness Day is on a declined state, last year it was ranked as 136th, and this year it is being ranked at 139th out of 146 countries. People in India are not considered to be happy, because 40% of the population of India is poor, with low purchasing power in the entire county. Till date, in rural cities, small villages, and towns no proper freedom is allowed to girls or women. Being a modernist male-dominated society culture is still followed in India.
On the other hand, the Top 10 Happiest Countries of the World are – 1. Finland, 2. Denmark, 3. Iceland, 4. Switzerland, 5. The Netherlands, 6. Luxembourg, 7. Sweden, 8. Norway, 9. Israel, 10. New Zealand. Whereas, the most unhappy country in the world is Afghanistan.
The theme of World Happiness Day 2022 is – Keep Calm, Stay Wise and Be Kind. So, let’s take a pledge this year on world happiness day, that each one of us will try and improve ourselves and change things as required. Let us all be happy and make this country a happy place to live in. “Do not instruct the change but be the change and show the results.”
