World Sleep Day, every year is celebrated on 18th March with the focus to bring awareness regarding various sleep problems, as well as the acknowledge the importance of healthy sleep in our daily lives. Today, Indian Broadcast Network intends to educate masses about the steps to be taken towards prevention and management of sleep disorders and maintaining good mental health.
In an exclusive conversation with IBN, we have with us, Dr. Ushasi Banerjee, Clinical Pyschologist at AMRI Hospitals, Mukundapur, sharing her valuable advice to help our readers maintain a healthy life and promote mental wellness among the masses on the occasion of World Sleep Day.
Sleep disorders are conditions when you are unable to sleep get restful quality sleep and, as a result, causes sleepiness, tiredness and lethargy during the daytime. Everyone can experience problems with sleep at different stages of their life. Lack of sleep can also be associated with poor mental health and many psychological conditions like depression and anxiety. However, common sleep disorders can be categorised under insomnia, restless legs syndrome, narcolepsy and sleep apnea, which can affect every aspect of your lives.
Here are some tips to maintain good Sleep Hygiene?
- Make sure that your bedroom is comfortable, cool, quiet and dark with minimal light.
- Avoid going to bed with a negative mind set. Don’t let any negative thoughts bother you while you are trying to sleep.
- Do not watch television, work on laptop or watch phone just before going to sleep. The radiation affects the quality of your sleep.
- Establish a regular bedtime and a relaxing routine for every day.
